Type the name, the logo appears
Enter a company name in a work entry or a school name in an education entry, and when you leave the field we look up the institution's logo. If we find it, it appears beside the entry. If we don't, you get the first letter of the name instead.
You don't search for an image, download it, or upload it.
How the matching works
We maintain a directory of over a thousand universities and companies, each with names and common aliases in English and Chinese. What you type is normalized and matched against that directory; we use the logo only on a hit.
Why no fuzzy matching: an earlier experiment searching an image library by keyword returned plenty of images with no relationship to the institution, including an asteroid orbit diagram for a university whose name happened to overlap. A wrong logo is worse than no logo, so we'd rather leave the slot empty.
The directory grows over time, and common spelling variants work: facebook and Facebook both resolve to Meta; Microsoft Corporation, Google China, and similar forms with legal or regional suffixes resolve to the parent company.
Why some well-known institutions have none
A few possibilities:
The institution isn't in the directory. A thousand entries doesn't cover every employer, especially smaller and newer companies.
It's in the directory but has no usable logo. Some official marks are horizontal wordmarks — the company name set as a long strip of letters. Dropped into a small square slot beside an entry, that becomes a line a few pixels tall, worse than showing the initial. Others carry licenses requiring attribution, which we won't use without crediting the source.
The official site refuses automated requests. Some do.
So logo coverage sits around half the directory. That's the current reality rather than a temporary gap.
When there's no match
Click the logo slot. A small input opens directly beneath it, and you can paste either:
- The institution's website — we fetch its site icon.
- A direct image URL — we use exactly that image.
Press Enter or click elsewhere to apply. The same control clears a logo you no longer want.
If you change the company name
The logo follows. Each logo remembers which name it was resolved for, so changing the company name triggers a fresh lookup when you leave the field. If the new name has no match, the old logo is cleared rather than left showing the previous employer's mark.
A logo you pasted by hand stays put as long as the name doesn't change.
